Processor at 80C, questions
I looked down today at my SpeedFan temp of the processor and the temp had jumped to 80C+. Normally runs in the low 40C range. Thinking that the fan quit on the all copper Zerotherm heat sink, I shut it down. Let it cool down and then restarted it to check the fans. All were working. The AMD 9600 was over clocked from 2.3 to 2.5 and I went back to the default settings. It is now running at 72C. I felt down toward the base of the processor and it felt quit cool and not real hot.
I think a sensor has goon bad because a cold start to the BIOS monitor puts the temp at 70C within seconds.
Do the sensors go bad in these processors? The computer has been running for over 3 hours now with no instability problems at all. Should I be overly concerned or just shut SpeedFan monator off and stick my head in the sand?
