AVG 7.5 worked well for me and I always used it on every system back in the day.
AVG 8.0 was nuttin' but trouble for me.
AVIRA is amazing - it has some quick detection.
Saved my butt 3 times.
I despise the pop up (as well) but I can learn to live with it.
