You need to take a look at these files:
/boot/grub/menu.lst
/boot/grub/device.map
menu.lst is the grub configuration file and device.map will tell you how grub is mapping your hard drives with respect to menu.lst. If you post those files here, we can probably figure out what's going on and make the appropriate changes.
