Drivers should not have anything to do with trying to initially install a new OS. From what little I know about Linux systems is that they should work just fine on older PC's and newer. They are a light weight OS.

You could have possibly either gotten a bad download or the image did not burn correctly onto the disc. Did you make sure that you have the boot sequence in your BIOS set to "CD-ROM" first as well?

Now, before you install do you have a partition made for the new OS on your HD or did you have a 2nd HD that were installing it on to?
