My sister has an old Sears opener that bit the dust after 20 years, has a new one from Sears and was wondering if I'd eyeball it and maybe swap it out. I've never fooled with one and only had just one in a prior house; one so old it came off the tracks when it was lowered accidentally on top of a van long ago.
From what little I remember looking at (who looks at garage door openers??), and reading there is alot of tension on it and door itself, and one just doesn't climb a ladder and start unbolting things, right? Unbolt the cable or chain (I forget what pulls the door) and door falls. I want to help out and need opinions. Afterall, most openers operate on same principle, correct? Chain/cable pulls it up and lowers best I can say. But do need safety precautions, etc.
