You'll find the P4 to run quite cool actually.
It seems Intel overestimated the amount of heat the CPU would produce in normal applications. If you are using the boxed fan/heatsink I would assume all is well.
If however you crank up the core voltage, you would be wise to keep tabs on temps.
Of the 3 P4 builds Iv'e made (Asus boards), the temps always stayed below 120 degrees(f) even when pushed quite hard.
I am unfamiliar with you particular board. It sounds like an i845 chipset board.
