On Award bioses, its usually in Integrated Peripherals. It's prolly labeled Serial Port 2 or UART 2. Change it to Disabled, and make sure Serial Port 1 or UART 1 is set to 3F8/IRQ4. Make sure you remove all com ports in device manager except Com 1. Don't put the modem (or any other card) in PCI slot 1 unless you absolutely have to. If you do put a card in there, try to make sure it's a card that does not use an IRQ, such as a Voodoo video addon card. What you are looking for after installation is the modem sitting nice and pretty on Com 2 IRQ 3.
