Fredwest still isn't a hard modem worshipper since he had good luck with a LT Winmodem
, but for 99% of the computing population, a Winmodem isn't gonna cut it.
Get yourself a Supra Express, either External (model 2730) or ISA (model 2720).
Fastest modems made, even got me to put my external USR on E-Bay when I got my Supra.
