Question Logitech Optical mouse USB problem

I recently bought a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse 2x Optical USB or PS2.
It runs fine in the PS2 port but when MS somehow recognized that it was made to use the USB port for added features 2x speed & accuracy. It wanted me to use the setup wizard to set it up for the USB.

I started by not reading the instructions Ok so when I pluged it in the first time to the PS2 port, and installed the CD Drivers everything was working fine. Until I rebooted, then windows said it had found out that the mouse, could run on USB. Just turn off the Computer and plug it into the USB and the wizard would pickup where it left off.

No way and no mouse. I wrote the company and was told to install another 2 USB ports. They said that the 2 on board usb ports might not be giving the mouse what it wanted. When I built this Computer ABIT included 2 more USBs, PCI opening, wire to MOBO type. So I have 4 and tried them all.

Now everything that it says the mouse buttons and internet wheel will do does work as advertized. Is 800dpi going to do anything more for me to worry about over 400dpi? I have not tried to hook up a mouse to both USB and PS2 in order to get around and see if I can get it to work in the USB by using Add new hardware. The Logitech tech did say that the Mouse had a mind of it's own and it was under warranty, so return it. If anyone has run into this and found a way to get it to work on USB, I will sure give it another try. If not I paid $10.00 for a nice blue mouse, that has a 5 year instead of a 3 year warranty and works as well as the less expenseve mouse.

I know this doesen't make much sense so I will just ask. Is this worth the time and trouble seeking 800dpi over 400dpi? I don't even know what dpi means and I just love the fact that I can throw my mouse ball cleaning kit out. This mouse is the like gliding on ice. Thanks Pulsar
