So can i do this setup?

Modem into computer via the usb connection. Have a NIC card installed inboth computers. Use a crossover cable to connect the computer with the modem to the new computer. Will that work?
That is the last choice that i see other than buy a new modem which i will not do, because it uses a RJ-11 connection and everything else uses a RJ-45 which is what the networking devices use.
