I have the exact same problem you have with the same scanner and OS. I have a reply from HP that is quite long for a forum reply. I can send it by e-mail if you wish. I haven't tried their recommendations yet as I have logged at least 3 days on my PC with the site recommendations. I even went out and purchased a new scanner. I found it sucked compared to how my HP scanner used to work on 98 and ME. So plan to try again. Thought I would try this forum before I got torqued at HP again. I plan to take a hammer to it and send it back to them if this doesn't work.
