Have you had any other scanning devices on your OS? If so, you must get rid of all evidence of the other scanning software and hardware.

This will often require that you do a wildcard search for the scanning software. Even after you have searched out all the software, go into your registry (only if you know what you are doing, if you are not comfortable with working in the registry I would suggest you not go there, always back up your registry prior to editing anything in there), and ensure that all scanners/software is deleted. Go into the device manager and delete the scanners in there also. Shutdown your computer, disconnect your scanner and re-load your software from the beginning, as if new install.

You will need the latest software for HP 3200C, ( you may already have it ), sj648en, if memory serves me correctly. Download it to a folder and unzip it. Follow the install wizard instructions.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU GET RID OF ALL OTHER SCANNING SOFTWARE, ANY TRACES!! OR YOUR RELOAD WON'T WORK.

After the install, shutdown your computer and restart without the scanner hooked up, this will initialize the software when you start up again with the scanner hooked up and will allow for plug and play, as your software is loaded.

Shut down your computer one more time and plug in your scanner, restart, your OS (win 98) should recognize the new hardware, walk through the steps. You may have to browse for your new software, but often times the OS will recognize the scanner and run the wizard accordingly, Good luck!

I have done all this with the HP tech support desk and still get a "PPSCAN.VXD" ERROR MESSAGE. ALSO AN "hp 3200c.inf" error code and I tried this twice. They tell me they have not had this error before and may send me the XP CD to load, however awaiting a call back from them. I am thinking that I may still have some sort of scanning software I can't find located on my system somewhere as I also use their all-in-one scanner fax printer office jet, 725. You may have better luck than I did, let me know.
