No, that shouldn't matter. My setup I have my modem on ttys2 (com3), and under kppp it shows as /dev/modem. Is this a "hard modem"? If it is dialing out Mandy has it setup correctly.

Does it sound like the isp is picking up the call on the other end or is it just busy or ringing? What does your log window show? That will show you any errors that occur. Maybe you need to call your isp to find out what authentication they use, (pap, chap, etc.). Though I would almost expect a blank stare when you mention Linux. Maybe increase your time out settings. It is probably just some niggling setting. We just have to fool with it some.
