This is a common problem with CD-ROM drives over 48x.

Therefore there will never be a CD-ROM drive over 56x. Those 52x and 56x CD-ROM exist for quite a while now.
But exploding CDs should only happen to CDs that aren't 100% ok, not with non-damaged CDs.
