The GeForce2 MX is based on the same .18-micron technology that the GeForce2 GTS is but clocked slower and has some architectural differences. These differences help cut power consumption and cost but at the same time take away from the performance of the GPU.
The GTS runs at 200 MHz, has 4 pixel pipelines and has a 128 bit memory interface. The MX runs at 175 MHz, has 2 pixel pipelines and can have either 64 bit or 128 bit memory interface.

There is a good bar graph comparing the two chips' performance here.

I'd recommend the Elsa Erazor X 2 or the Hercules 3D Prophet DDR. Both excellent cards, not quite the 300 dollar top of the heap but definitely fast and pretty graphics makers! Probably run you about $190-220.
