Setting up an SSL is generally quite easy. It just depends upon your host sometimes, though. Some offer a server wide SSL that you can use for free. Most would offer the option of having your own SSL. Back in the days that I didn't know better, I purchased a Thwate SSL for about $100. Now Verisign owns Thawte so that option is no longer available. Others like Equifax, InstantSSL & QuickSSL offer lower cost, less compatible SSL's for as low as $49.
So I would first check with your host to see if they offer a server wide SSL, then consider one of the less expensive options.
