The Internet contains a wide variety of graphic images that are usually stored in GIF or JPG formatted files. Although Agent doesn't display these images directly, you can view them from Agent if you have a GIF or JPG viewing program. To configure your system for viewing graphics from Agent:
Windows 95 or NT4
1. Run "My Computer".
Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
2. Open the Options dialog box.
On the View menu, click Options, then click the File Types tab.
3. Create a new file type.
Press the New Type button to open the Add New File Type dialog box. Complete the fields in this dialog box as follows:
· Description of type - Enter a brief description of the file type (e.g., GIF image).
· Associated extension - Enter the extension GIF or JPG.
4. Configure the file type's action and associated application.
Press the New button to open the New Action dialog box. Complete the dialog box as follows:
· Action - Enter a brief description of what the file type does (e.g., open).
· Associated extension - Enter the full path of the application used to perform the action or press Browse to search for the viewer on your hard drive.

Attachments to messages can contain a wide variety of media data, typically image and sound files. Large media-files may need to be broken into several message attachments. When you retrieve messages with attachments, Agent makes quick work of processing the attachments so that you can launch or save them effortlessly.
To retrieve an attachment:
1. Select any message in the attachment. Note: If you checked "Join multipart messages automatically" on the Receive Files tab of the Properties for Selected Groups dialog box (or Default Properties dialog), then you select the joined message. If you did not configure the group for automatic joining, then you must manually decode the attachment. (See the procedure for manually decoding an attachment below.)
2. Retrieve and/or view the attachment by selecting Launch Attachment from the File menu. Alternatively, double-clicking the attachment will launch it if you have checked the option "Double-clicking launches attachments" on the Receive Files tab of the Default Properties for All Groups dialog box. If you select Save All Attachments from the File menu, Agent will save all attachments in the directory entered in the Directory tab of the Properties for Selected Groups dialog box.
If you are configured for online use (see the Online tab of the User and System Profile dialog box for details) and have checked "Save attachments automatically" on the Receive Files tab of the Properties for Selected Groups dialog box (or Default Properties dialog), Agent will immediately begin downloading and decoding the attachment. Also, if you selected the Launch option, once the file has been saved, Agent will run the Windows application associated with the attachment's file type (see below).
If you are configured for offline use and have checked "Save attachments automatically" on the Receive Files tab of the Properties for Selected Groups dialog box (or Default Properties dialog), Agent will mark all parts of the attachment for retrieval. The next time you select Get Marked Message Bodies from the Online menu, Agent will download and decode the selected attachments (but not automatically launch them).
Occasionally, you may find multi-part attachments whose subject lines do not match standard convention (e.g., they don't include the typical [1/2], [2/2] notation). To decode such files, you must tell Agent about all of the attachments components.
To manually decode an attachment:
1. Select all the messages that contain the attachment by clicking on one message and then, with the Control key pressed, clicking on the remaining messages.
2. Select Join Sections from the Message menu.
3. Make sure the messages are in order. If they are not, use the Up and Down buttons in the Join Sections dialog box to order them.
4. Launch or save the attachment by pressing the corresponding button. If you are offline and have not yet retrieved the attachment's messages, Agent will immediately go online to download and decode the attachment.
This causes Agent to launch the application associated with the attachment's MIME or file type. The file type is determined by the attachment's filename extension. For example, "foo.gif" is a GIF file. For more information, see How to Configure a GIF or JPG Viewer to Work with Agent.
After you have viewed an attachment, you may decide that you want to remove it from your hard drive. Although you can obviously do this in another program such as File Manager, Agent makes it easy for you to remove attached files.
To delete an attachment:
1. Select any message in the attachment.
2. Choose Delete Saved Attachments from the File menu.
Important Note: When you delete the attachment, Agent still retains the body of the message. For example, you might see the Usenet message with attachments icon next to the header, even though you have deleted the attachment. For this reason, you might want to launch attachments from the message (using Launch Attachment) and decide whether or not you want to keep it before saving it to file.
