), but remove/reinstall DUN and remove/reinstall network components, that fixes things most of the time.
control panel/add-remove programs/windows setup/details on communications/uncheck DUN/apply. Reboot then reverse the process to reinstall.
control panel/network/remove all components under configuration tab/ok/reboot. Reverse the process after rebooting by adding them back. You need Client for Microsoft Networks (under client/microsoft), Dial Up Adapter (under adapter/microsoft), and TCP/IP (under protocol/microsoft). If there's a network card in the machine, the adapters and protocols for it will reinstall on their own, so just let them go if that's the case, they won't hurt anything. Any AOL adapters or other such crap needs to go and not come back.
