When electricity travels through a conductor (wire) there is a magnetic field generated around the wire. These magnetic fields constantly expand and collapse and induce a current into nearby wires. These currents can disrupt data flow through an unshielded wire. The ata66 cables have ground wires between each data wire to send the inducted current to ground and therefore not affecting the data conductors.
