I don't think that RAMBUS is so much a flawed concept as it is too expensive to implement. Nobody wants to pay $500.00+ CDN for 128Mb of RAM. The 820 chipset never had a problem with RAMBUS, but rather SDRAM. RAMBUS works fine, but because of it's expense, it isn't for the everyday computer user.
