that's just a theoretical view.
I mean, I have a computer in the other room: P3 500, 128 mbRAM, Windows98se.
The one I am on now is a P4 1700, 512mb RDram, WindowsXPhome. This computer is many, many times faster than that other thing.
Notice the technology of the first one contained components that were all relatively new at the time, it was bought in 1998. THis one also has the same upward scale, all realtively new components, bought about 9 months ago. Reguardless, the first machine is much slower. I have also noticed that 98se/ME uses about the same resources as XP, as long as both are configured properly. Admittedly the new (optional) look of XP can slightly (and I mean slightly ) add a bit of slugishness to the UI, but it is negligible on a fast computer.
Not that you care my opinion, but I don't think Windows is the driving factor in furthering technology, it is a part of the whole picture though.
