Ironic you should say such a thing. I believe we will kill ourselves with our technology long before we see 5 billion years.
As per DilLy's comment. If you run the same programs on a 1700MHz, and a 300MHz, of course it will be faster. My comparison is only between relative versions of software and hardware. Software is so lagging behind now, however.
