Cannon's are easly to use. Sony's have a lot of bells and whistles, and are a bit more complicated.
I went with a cannon (it was cheaper; $1000 with the mic). The Sony's were a little bit more. I would go with either Cannon or Sony. I would also stay away from Panasonic. Their cameras aren't that great at the moment. But, it's just a matter of preference. It also depends what you want to do with it; home movies or blockbuster hits.
