NTFS write support is iffy and will likely remain so for a long time. It's a very tough nut to crack without specs and when M$ makes subtle changes along the way.
In many cases it may work just fine, then suddenly ... gone. If you have data files that you want to share between WinXP/W2K and a Linux installation, set up a FAT32 partition. Both Linux and Windoze have no problems with FAT32 in read and write mode.
