Don't throw out the idea that the case is no good. While hard to find, there are AT motherboards that come in slot and socket design for the Celeron that will use an AT power supply. It probably would be best though to include the case just on the fact that the teacher might think you're full of it. Better yet, hand in the assignment with a dual upgrade path.
