disabling the 56k will have not effect.

Which is the exact DSL modem you have? if you have the WESTELL modem switch to the ethernet cable and use the modems built in PPPOE software located at 192.168.1.254 or launchmodem from your broswer.

If you dont' have the westell post back with the modem u do have. Bellsouth has a few USB DSL modems but only the westell and Homeportal's have both USB and Ethernet. All the others are either or, not both.
