If you are installing WinXP, just set up the first partition during setup, then use Disk Management after the fact to set up the rest of the drive. Using HAL's example, you would set up a 10gb primary partition during install, then in Disk Management you would allocate the rest of the drive as an extended partition, which can then be broken up into however many logical drives you want. I would also recommend that the first thing you do after install is use Disk Management to set your optical drive letters to what you want - I use R and W on mine (read and write).
