France and Russia are also concerned about their pre-war oil exploration contracts with Iraq being honoured. If they are not, they stand to lose a huge bundle.

Hence the underlying reason for the recent French, Russian, German "summit" - to safeguard French and Russian business interests.

Those people who thought Russia and France were opposing miltary action on purely moral, legal, and altruistic grounds, need to take their rose-tinted specs off.

I haven't heard anything about France condoning the war or offering to send troops. France, Russia, and Germany have just softened their position on UN (i.e. French and Russian) involvement in post-war Iraq.
