Chalabis, though, seems to be as power hungry as Saddam; he's been accused, by Jordan and the USA itself, of misusing his positions of leadership to swindle the people he led and to further his own rise to power. Not to mention, as someone who hasn't lived in Iraq since 1956, most of Iraq doesn't even accept him as a fellow countryman; half a century of living elsewhere means he's out of touch with the people.

We have to make sure that we're not replacing him with the next Saddam. When we recruited Saddam to help overthrow the existing government of Iraq, he had a similar background -- an expatriate who fought against his former government, one with something of a checkered past, but who promised to support US interests in Iraq.
