too many connections
alright, i'm not exactly sure what you're saying there but i'm going to assume you installed the dial-up/ethernet card and got on the internet using the dial-up but have as yet to use the ethernet...if i were you i would connect to the internet using your dial up and see which of those two local area connections then becomes active (loses the red x and does the whole connected deal) then make sure you leave that one alone...whenever you get connected using your ethernet port another one of the local area connections should become active and you shouldn't touch that one; now whichever or if there are any left you could delete those from the network connections folder in the control panel because it would seem that they are just leftover from some old connection or one of the local area connections windows just decides to make sometimes; either way these local area connections are not hurting your computer in any way, they're just saying that each one is a possible network connection that at that time is working and will alert you as to when they are working. if you wish to not see these icons down on your start bar anymore no matter if they're working or not, go to properties for each of them in the network connections folder of the control panel and at the bottom, uncheck the "show icon in notification area when connected" box and voila, you won't see them again...heh, that was one really convoluted explanation there but i hope that helps...
