Well I'd recommend Delpart especially for NTFS partitions as FDISK can't delete them. Delpart is the sledge hammer approach to removing partitons IMO but boy does it work! I'd be lost without it.

As for volume labelling, I think it makes sense to a give a logical drive a logical name. If you have many drives (say ten) you can see at a glance from Explorer exactly the drive you want to access by its' name. C, D, E, F, G, H etc etc means not very much at all when you're hunting for that one file that 'must be somewhere'.
