Unless I'm mistaken the audio passthrough on the ATI card is only for input, i.e. it'll process audio on the card for playback on the PC, but the card itself doesn't output sound to anything except software internally.
So, you'll need to output sound from your sound card directly. You can get a diagram of the sound card's outputs from the card's manual, downloadable at
