If money is the issue you can throw in a scavanged hard drive (if you have an old one) as slave and install Linux on that as to not to mess with your setup. Just boot from floppy (or cd) when you want to run Linux. Does newer RH still use LILO?
Also, XP has a partition tool in disk management. I don't know it allows ntfs and fat on the same disk, though.
also, I had a heck of a time with my hardware configuration. You may want to check the hardware compatibility at Red Hat. I am running RH 6, so I don't know if newer versions have support for newer hardware. I don't presume to know everything about this, these are just some of the issues I encountered.
