I saw a articel about hard drives and they had a diagram of the drive head above the platter, there was some distance between the two (of course it was a blown up drawing) then there was this huge circle that was almost as high as the head that was floating above the patter, then a jaggd rockey thing about 50% bigger than the distance the head was floating.....
The circle was a human hair on end! The jaged thing was a spec of dust!
You open the thing up and it is dead, (that is unless you have a clean room and I do not mean a quick vacuum and tidy up)
like blakhart said, you remove the cover over the screws and it is presumed that you opened it and your warranty is history. If you poke one a little I do not think that there would be any questions.
