I as undertand it, you Americans should value above all else your basic rights and freedom.Now here is a conundrum. What about the freedom of those people who WANT to give away their rights 'a little at a time'. If you stop them,you are taking away their basic right to choose - soooo I can only conclude that there is no such thing as total freedom in any society.
A (very) simple example. People are driving too fast down a residential street, so a speed limit is imposed to protect the residents.Motorists have lost the 'right' to drive at their usual speeds, but would probably agree on the loss of this freedom.
I know,and agree, with your statement that with rights comes responsibilities - but in the real world people just don't act that way, especially if the responsible course conflicts with their own needs.
