RAID 0 or a Virus or Worm would not damage your HDs. A virus may trash your files or BIOS (CIH), but not physically damage your hardware.
If it turns out that it is the other "old" HD that has died, then it is more likely, that if you bought them at the same time, they were part of a "bad" batch. Or perhaps the guy in the shop just dropped the box.
What could cause premature failure of your HDs is overheating in the case or irregular voltage from a faulty PSU.
You should also protect your PC from power cuts, power surges, and lightning strikes by using a UPS, or at the very least, a surge protector.
