I heard that the average HD lasts for about 5 yrs. The oldest drive I have is in my Dell PC. It's 4+ yrs old now and it still works fine. I suggest buying another drive since it seems that prices are going down. I'd check with staples, office depot, etc. for rebates and sales.

EDIT: I think staples has a Maxtor 120GB 7200rpm internal HD for $85 after rebates.
