RealVNC was the original version, tightVNC added some improvements. The latest is UltraVNC, it has some significant improvements, and is the one under active development right now. They're all from the same base, and they're all free software, so I use UltraVNC. If you search on the three, you can visit the sites and see what's going on with each of them.
