The only options in the Bios regarding USB are Assign IRQ to USB, currently enabled. And USB Keyboard support, currently disabled.

Under USB controller in device manager, there is displayed USB Root hub and a VIA PCI to USB Universal host controller. When the mouse is connected, it is not present in device manager.

I'm running Windows 98

Yes, the mobo has a VIA chipset, and it has the 4 in 1 driver installed.

In all attempts the install the mouse, I go through the following. I unplug my current serial mouse, and plug in the Explorer. When the explorer is plugged in, nothing else happens, there is no window saying windows has detected new hardware. If the computer is restarted, windows tells me no mouse is detected.

When plugged in, the explorer responds sporadically. Once in a while if I try to move it, it lights up, but immediately turns back off.

A couple weeks ago I successfully installed the mouse. I plugged it in, it was detected by windows, the driver was installed. But I got the same problem, it would only light up and move the cursor occasionally.

I don't know if the mouse is totally dead, or if it's just a USB problem. So I was going to try to adapt it to PS/2 just to see what happens. But I can't find that adapter.
