Unhappy

I have an IBM G50 that I bought refurbished. Lately it has been acting weird. When I turn it off, the next time I turn it on, it just sits there with a black screen. The little green LED is lit, and Windows loads properly, but I can't see it. I have to turn the monitor off and on a bunch of times, and finally it will come on like it is supposed to. It always makes three little clicking/ticking noises when it comes on like it is supposed to, so I know that if I don't hear the noise, it isn't on like it should be. My brother said he thinks it is getting stuck in the degaussing mode. Is this something that can be fixed easily and cheaply? Or is it time to get a new monitor?
