Accessing the internet is the same, be it on a laptop or a desktop.
(a) you need an Internet service provider
(b) you need a modem to access the internet by dialling into the provider (check ur laptop manual to see if u have a modem already built in)
or
if you have a network card (again check the manual) you can use it to access the internet - a lot of hotels etc. provide the internet a broadband connection
or
if you have a wireless connection, you might find a wireless hotspot where you are.

Mind you, even if you dont have one of the above components, you could always buy an add-on device that will do the job.

I cannot even begin to explain to you the # of ways you can access the internet (for example, I usually use my cell fone as a GPRS modem for my laptop). So if you want specifics you will need to give us specifics about how to access the internet (diallup, broadband etc etc) and what laptop you have.
