My mom also nearly kicked me outta my house when I installed that HSF. I had to put the Cooler-Master back on. 
I tried the sensor, installed properly, but never worked. Fan continued to run at the same speed.
I did get the coolest temp I've ever gotten in a CPU with it (36ºC on an Athlon 1700+), but at the cost of the noise.
