How much was the case and power supply? If the total cost was under $50, I'd be very wary about using that power supply.

Oh yes...a low quality power supply can die prematurely and possibly kill anything it's connected to in your computer.

That's a sign that it's a low quality power supply. A good quality power supply will have at least 6 to 8 power leads. I'd replace it with a known good brand.
