cdrw drive install>>secondary ide disabled
I'm having trouble installing a CDRW drive. There was a pre-existing CDRom drive and I just pulled the IDE cable (& the power cable & sound cable) out of it and attached it to the new drive. The new drive wasn't recognized. I tried setting the jumper as cable select and as master. The drive doesn't appear in Device manager. I tried plugging the old drive back in & that isn't recognized either.
Msinfo says that the secondary ide controller has been disabled. If I go into device mgr in safe mode it shows the secondary ide controller and the cd rom device (the old one).
How do I reenable the IDE controller? I've tried it in BIOS but no luck.
I've installed these drives before but never get the same problem twice!! tia
