Your DSL may not be PPPoE - it's possibly straight dynamic IP if you are with a local company instead of the telco or a major ISP. If you were given a login with a username and password, it's PPPoE, if not, it's dynamic.
This will tell us something - with the modem connected directly to the PC, open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG/ALL - and post the IP address on your Ethernet adapter.
