10 years is what automakers have to provide parts for your auto.

How would you like to buy a 2005 model then in 2010 be unable to find replacement parts.

Automakers I believe are required to supply parts for up to 10 years. after that you are banking on stock pile, gutted junk cars, after market suppliers.

It stands to reason if auto makers are required to support their cars/trucks for 10 years, Software could be ruled in the same way i guess.
