if you look at most companies who have wireless deployed, the only wired connection to an access point is the one rolling back to the IDF and that is just to provide connectivity to the larger network. a router with wireless built in provides that wired connection internally.
the only issue you may have is coverage as most consumer grade wireless devices use a lower power radio (30-50mW) which greatly curtail range and that can be solved with a little trial and error and moving/reorienting the wireless router and antenna.
