Come with what? The computer icon is just there so you don't have to go into /mnt everytime, freetype comes with the "easy" distros like mandkrake, suse and fedora (I think), but you still have to download them for debian, gentoo and slackware.
Btw, linux is in my opinion moving very fast ahead, so any new and stable version of anything is worth the upgrade, like how alsa comes with kernel 2.6, and window managers and gui's are always getting better.
