wireless network problem
hello everyone,
in my house i have a cable modem hooked up to a wireless netgear g router. the computer upstairs is hardwired to the router, and the computer downstairs is hooked up with a netgear wireless card g. both of those computers work fine, they can use the internet and share files.
the problem: i have another computer hooked up upstairs and that is trying to connect to the router using a d-link 802.11b wireless card. the computer can recognize the network, and it was able to connect once (not sure what i did though), then..after restartig the comptuer, it coudltn connect anymore.
ive also tried only letting computers that the router allows to connect to the network, and both wireless cards are connected underneath, and the downstairs computer works, but teh upstairs still has problems.
**UPDATE** when i disabled the WEP security, the wireless card was able to work and connect to the network and internet. Although there is no WEP, i made the network only available to those computers that the admin chooses to be on the network (have to add them in manually)...
my question now is, is this safe? or are there any potential problems??
thanks, (and sry for the long post)
