Open the Linksys wireless utility on the 98 machine and change it from ad-hoc to infrastructure. Assign it a static IP for most reliable connection, I suggest 192.168.1.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.1.1, and actual DNS servers (obtained from the WAN status page in the router admin). Win98 has problems getting an IP address from wireless, the DHCP search times out on bootup before the adapter can associate unless you hardcode the SSID, channel, MAC, and WEP key in Windows adapter advanced properties (NOT the Linksys utility).
